Tatts

•April 5, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I’m busy doing one of those mis life crisis things. Can’t afford the bike so currently I’m playing around with the idea of getting a tattoo. I’m in the study listening to cool tunes from last.fm and watching my predictions for this week-ends super 14 games go down the toilet. I’m also trying to get into a new web-site design for a private equity company.

So yea, for a male, that’s a whole lot of multi-tasking. No wonder I’ve strayed to a web search for a new, different idea for a tatt. MomSo many of them look so gothic.celtic etc. I don’t want to go down the route so many have followed. So I’m looking for something that remotely catches my attention and then I think I’ll develop it from there.

I also think I’ll not be going down the wife and children’s names all over the place or Love or Mom.

It’s the night before the next morning.

Tomorrow’s the 1st April – April fools day. Significant, why?

Well because I will have been married for 13 years come 9:30 tomorrow morning and because I’m going on a serious health kick – starting tomorrow.

Lately, I’ve started to succumb to all sorts of crazy ailments that I’ve never suffered from before and I’m dead certain it’s because of the weight. supporters.gifBy the by, I’m only 1.72cm high and I weigh 104kg. My weight goals are, first, to break 100kg and then to loose another 15kg’s getting to 85kg.

I just thought about it and I should actually have my “before” pic on the site but hey, I don’t really have one. BUT I do have one from last winter. I’m the geezer on the left. (Great hair day I was having that day)

  • Rugby world cup – 3 games today – all live on DSTV
  • Premiership – most games live
  • The F1 Grand Prix in Belguim – Yes, also live
  • My daughter dancing competition through-out the day

The remote control has been surgically attached to my hand.

Currently watching England play South Africa in the Twenty20 World Cup – SA looking good so far.

Bloc Party

Phlazar gave me a CD to listen o the other day. He is undergoing a metamorphosis in terms of his music tastes, but the weirdest stuff is coming out of this process.

The CD is Silent Alarm by Bloc Party.

blocparty.gif“Bloc Party are an English indie rock band. In 2005, the band released their critically acclaimed debut album Silent Alarm. Their second studio album, A Weekend in the City was released on February 5, 2007 in the UK and February 6 in the US.”

I now realise that I don’t like Indie music. Sorry Phlazar, I gave it a whirl, but I don’t like it.

Looks like I’m an alternative/funk rock kinda guy. Live, MatchBox Twenty, Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, the Chili Peppers, ColdPlay, Muse, U2 etc.

Lazy COLD Sunday

•May 27, 2007 • Leave a Comment

cold1.jpgcold2.jpgHas it been cold or what? We’re not used to the cold in S.A. This last week has been cold. -1 to -4 degrees celcius for the last 5 days – and that’s without wind chill.

Any hoo, here I sit doing a bit of work, a bit of this and a bit of that. Thought I might write a blog. Currently listening to my newest find on the web last.fm. What a cool application/service. I’ve told it what I like to listen too, and its setup a play list of similar music and I’m listening to song after song of the stuff I like. Been doing some warehouse database design. Got bored so I decided to get my Skype setup again – new computer – I didn’t set Skype up when I installed it. One thing led to another and now I’m trying to find an old friend who now lives in the UK, John Parker. I was hoping he would be on Skype. So I found 3 John Parkers in the UK and have tried to contact them. We’ll see what happens.

Ozzy’s just come on last.fm with “Mama, I’m coming home”. I used to love watching the Osbournes on the Box. It’s just beyond me how Ozzy’s still alive. I mean over the years, he’s really tried to do damage to himself in one way or another. You need to spend a couple of hour listening to him to begin to understand what the hell he’s saying.

South Africa – the expected society by 2010

•February 2, 2007 • Leave a Comment

I have just come across a very interesting document which has as its conclusion the following:

By 2006/7 there seems to be two emerging options for 2010 and beyond.

Option 1: The current governing decay continues. The demands from a distorted society for government support increases dramatically, while Government’s capabilities continue to decline. Eventually democracy and the survival of the state itself come into question. The expected outcome is not a civil war, but rather something closer to a silent, internal implosion – things will just cease to function! The quality of life for the population will decrease as services decline and collapse. Emigration of expertise may increase dramatically en so expedite the process of internal implosion.

Option 2: The current governing decay continues, but society does not only demand; it also starts to provide. Very specific interest groups in society realise that without a form of alternative self-management, society at large will eventually collapse.

Option 2 has not only steadily gained influence since 2000 – when government structures started falling apart – but seems to be the winning option for 2010 and beyond. It seems that the structures which Government cannot supply and maintain, and are needed by interest groups for their own survival, are replaced and regenerated by these groups outside Government.

…..
In crude terms it seems that a new political dispensation is in the making: what Government cannot do, private sector groupings will take over in interaction with international concerns. It may reflect some kind of political by-pass operation. This may no longer be a party-driven political system, but an interest driven society where expertise will be the dominant factor.

It paints a picture, with references to support documentation, of the state of this country in the years ahead. One form of capital that the document refers to is that of Virtual Capital .

The new virtual society is everywhere and any “accumulated possessions” are expressed, not so much in the traditional perception of fixed assets, but in capital of the mind – ideas, entrepreneurship and expertise that can be applied and relocated with the push of a button. This process forms the driving force behind the process of globalisation. Virtual capital is determined by the competitive advantage of society, not by fixed assets.

I tend to agree woth the document. I think that society, let’s call it private society, is starting to take issues into their own hands. By this I don’t mean vigilantism. The examples used are valid. The security industry is now double the size of the Police etc etc It has to go further than that but it’s a start

Talking to a friend of mine. he put it like this. “We need to privatise the government”. I reallly do feel, given the thinking of this document that me way well find ourselves, in this country, creating an alternate form of government or “interest driven society “. Is it too far fetched to believe? Here is the link for the full doc.

On another note, Read the post “A worthy Cause”, went to the site. They have also asked for people to link to them. So I will and have

A week at the gym: One mans story

•February 1, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Just had to post this

If you read this without laughing out loud, there is something wrong with you. This is dedicated to everyone who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine.

Dear Diary:
For my 24th birthday this year, my friend Werner purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.
Although I am still in great shape since playing on my college football team 8yrs ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservation with a personal trainer named Belinda, who identified herself as a 26 yr. old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swimwear.
Werner seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00am.
Tough to get out of bed, but it was well worth it. When I arrived at the health club to find Belinda waiting for me. She was something of a Greek goddess with blonde hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile.
Woo Hoo!!!!!
She took my pulse after 5 minutes on the treadmill. She was alarmed that my pulse was so fast, but I attributed it to standing next to her in her Lycra aerobics outfit. I enjoyed watching the skilful way in which she conducted her aerobics class after my workout today.
Very inspiring, Belinda was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time she was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!

TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Belinda made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air, and then she put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Belinda’s rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT!! It’s a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by lying on the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot. Belinda was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered the other club members Her voice is a little too perky for early in the morning and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whines that is VERY annoying.
My chest hurts when I got on the treadmill, so Belinda put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Belinda told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. She said some other sh.t too.

THURSDAY:
Belinda was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth exposed as her thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl I couldn’t help being a half an hour late; it took me that long to tie my shoes. Belinda took me to workout with dumbbells. When she was not looking, I ran and hid in the men’s room. She sent Lars to find me, then, as punishment, put me on the rowing machine-which I sank.

FRIDAY:
I hate that b.tch Belinda more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anaemic little cheerleading b.itch . If there were a part of my body could move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it. Belinda wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the*&%#(#&** barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.
The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

SATURDAY:
Belinda left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing her made me want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

SUNDAY:
I’m having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year, Werner (the Doos), will choose a gift for me that is fun –like a root canal or a vasectomy!!

So turned an uneventfull 40. Maybe that’s a lie, but I can’t remember most of it. Looks like I have a new job.  Cut the distance to work from 23 Km to 9 km and that’s against the traffic. Woo Hoo.

Was reading some blog this morning where the guy says he’s been using windows live writer to write his blogs and he kinda likes it. So thaught I’d have a go. So this is my first post using another of Bills products.

There might be pics from the party, but I don’t remember, and no ones come forward. When I find some, I’ll post them.
